 Unfortunately, none of my pictures sold this weekend. But, this DOES NOT mean I am giving up!! Too many awesome things happened this weekend. I met great people, took great pictures, and maybe even made some new friends! I was surprised with a gift from a friend I look at like a father who paid my first year's dues into the local art guild. Thank you, Cowboy! With over 100 photos to sort through and work with, this project may take longer than originally planned. Please don't give up!!  So, today I got many great photos at Beyersville SPJST hall and met some awesome people, too. I got my photos down to the Expo Center for the show tomorrow and Saturday. Unfortunately, due to lack of funds and some issues with Fred (my truck) I won't be out on Friday, but I WILL be out Saturday.
I had an interesting conversation with a friend last night who convinced me that, if this is really what I want to do.... I need to do it. I started asking myself why I do this. It wasn't a question of what purpose it serves so much as it was why I love it, why I am passionate about it. It's the legacy, the history, the artistry, the brotherhood and fellowship. I love good stories and these folks bring them. I think it's akin to my father being in the Single Action Shooters Society. As I drove away from the Hall, headed to the Expo Center to drop off my prints, I smiled. The beauty of the Blackland Prairies I now call home with twisting roads filled with gorgeous old cars was a moment of beauty. I (safely) grabbed my phone and snapped the pic you see, giddy that I was able to share even a glimpse of what I saw. Thanks to everyone who spoke with me today. I look forward to seeing you all again!!  I am also using some of the smaller pockets for fabric swatches. The gingham I am using is old fabric I inherited from my grandmother, and will not be as easy to match colors for. Having my book with me when I go shopping for contrast fabrics will make it easier! I am not sure what possessed me to do this, but I decided to start making a skirt for the Lonestar Round Up. If I don't finish in time, I'll finish it for something else. If I do finish it, awesome! This time, I'm striving to be more organized with my sewing. Wish me luck!!  I had this idea while digging through boxes yesterday. I think these were meant to be used in my wedding nearly 2 years ago, but they are great for keeping pieces of a project labeled! I wrote down the piece number, description, pattern number, and how many pieces of what I need (fabric, interfacing, etc) so nothing gets lost, and I get all the pieces I need!  To keep pattern pieces safe while using them, I am using a Smash style scrapbook with clear pocket pages and areas to take notes.  I started working on a skirt for the Loneatar Round Up. I have no idea why Last night, I went to the Dollar Tree to grab some cheap garbage bags because my husband and I (mostly my husband) were tearing the house apart looking for something, and decided to do some much needed cleaning. On the way there, the sun was not completely down, and I got some great views of the prairie sunset.
On the way home, it was dark, and in my area, when we say dark we mean D-A-R-K. We don't need no steenkeeng street lamps! As I rounded the corner from Highway 95 onto FM 1331, there was an eerie light. The humidity was already building from the front blowing in from Galveston, and no moonlight could be found. Atop one of the many. MANY gins in my area is a rather large star lit with LED bulbs. The bluish-white glow sunk down onto the pointed tops of the silos and evaporated into the night. I was inspired. I wanted to take pictures of the cotton gins in my area for Zest Fest in Taylor, TX coming in May, and that image of the star glowing in the foggy night sealed the deal for me. If I had a better camera, maybe I would have pulled over and snapped the picture. That will be my next goal... get a better camera. Some times, I wish I could take images out of my brain and put them on paper the way other people can. I have missed so many great pictures. Until the time I can afford a better camera, I will just save my memories in hopes I have these chances again. I know, lightning in a bottle. But you never know! Miranda I was at a red light and got a text from my husband, so I peeked at it this morning. Alongside it, there was a new email. It was Bob, reminding me that the Lonestar Round Up is a month away, and expressing excitement about my appearance in the art show. Granted, I am terribly excited, too. This could be a really big opportunity to springboard my photography and artwork.
And yet, at the same time, I am secretly freaking out! I have tried to prepare, but with things happening around the farm and at work, it seems like I am losing track of time. Never fear, I am not backing out of the art show, and I will be making an appearance or two at the Round Up. But, now I have to get everything into high gear so I can be prepared! I have all four pieces that I plan to show finished. Now, it's just a matter of having them sent to the printer and getting them framed. I'm not unveiling them until I go to the show, so no, you won't see them just yet. I am very excited about how they turned out, though! Keep an eye out for a promotion I am cooking up exclusively for the Round Up. I haven't decided exactly what it will be yet, but I am working on something to drum up a little business!
